How do I take deposits?

Set a deposit policy, write it into your rental agreement, and record deposits per booking.

Deposits in Rennt are a policy you set, not a switch you flip — you decide the rule, write it into your rental agreement, and record deposit payments on each booking.

1. Decide your policy#

Common choices: a flat amount (say $50 to reserve), a percentage of the total, or full payment up front for small orders. There is no right answer — pick what your market tolerates.

2. Put it in your agreement#

Open the Rental agreement tab, state the deposit terms plainly (amount, when it is due, whether it is refundable and until when), and click Save agreement. Customers read and sign this at checkout, so your deposit terms are agreed to in writing before you deliver anything.

3. Record deposits as they come in#

Open the booking in Bookings and record the deposit on its payments ledger — cash, card, check, or other. The booking then shows amount paid and balance due, so you always know who still owes what before delivery day.

★
Refundable vs non-refundable is the clause customers argue about. Write it in plain language with a date — "non-refundable within 7 days of the event" beats legal boilerplate.
