Writing product descriptions that sell

Size, capacity, what is included, one vivid detail. A formula with real examples.

The Description is the one or two lines under a product's name on your storefront. Its job is to answer, fast: will it fit, what comes with it, and is it right for my crowd. Renters scan — write for scanning.

The formula#

Size + capacity + what's included + one vivid detail.

  • "15x15 castle bounce house — fits 8–10 kids at once. Blower, stakes and setup included. Bright turrets the birthday photos love."
  • "20x20 frame tent — seats 40 at rounds, 60 theater-style. Sidewalls available. We level, stake and take down."
  • "White folding chair — clean, matched sets, indoor/outdoor. Delivered stacked; count them in 30 seconds."

What to always include#

  • Dimensions and footprint — the #1 question. Add what it needs: "requires 20x20 of flat grass and a standard outlet within 75 ft."
  • Capacity in human terms: kids at once, seats at tables.
  • What is in the price: setup, blower, cords, delivery or not.
  • Who or what it is for: quinceañeras, backyard weddings, church picnics — name the event and buyers self-select.

What to cut#

Empty adjectives ("premium", "high-quality"), your company story (that is the website's job), and anything the photo already shows. Two to four tight sentences beat a paragraph.

Write one great description, then reuse its skeleton for every similar item — consistency reads as professionalism.
