Setup fees: charging for installation per unit
Charge for labor separately from rent — per unit, itemized on the booking.
A setup fee is what you charge to install an item, per unit, on top of its rental price — $25 to stake and inflate each bounce house, $40 to raise each tent. It keeps your rental price clean while still paying for the labor.
Where to set it#
In Inventory, the setup fee sits with the product's other pricing fields — the Add a product form has it when you create the product, and you can edit it on the product afterwards. Enter the per-unit amount: book two units, the fee doubles.
How it shows up#
Setup fees are itemized on the booking, separate from rent, delivery and tax — the customer sees exactly what is labor. They flow through to the totals, the signed agreement, and the bookings CSV export for your accounting (there is a dedicated Setup fee column).
Setup fee vs delivery fee#
- Delivery = getting things to the address, priced from distance via your Delivery settings.
- Setup = installing them once there, priced per unit here.
When you create a booking yourself with + New booking, the Auto-calculate delivery & setup button fills both from the address and the products chosen.
Should you charge one?#
If an item takes real labor — inflatables, tents, staging, dance floors — yes. Burying labor in the rental price makes your headline price look uncompetitive next to companies that split it out. For drop-off items like chairs, most companies skip it.
