Sample products — and the Remove samples button
Why new accounts have "(sample)" items, why library imports start off, and how to clear both.
New accounts come seeded with a few products marked "(sample)" so your storefront and dashboard are not an empty page while you learn. They are placeholders, and clearing them is a launch-day task.
Removing them#
While samples exist, the top of Inventory shows a Remove samples button — one click deletes every "(sample)" item at once. You can also delete them individually like any product, but the button is faster.
Why library items start switched off#
When you pull items in with Browse product library, they arrive with the Active toggle off — on purpose. Library items carry a placeholder image and a suggested price; if they went live instantly, your storefront would show stock photos and prices you never chose. The intended flow: import, set your real Price and Qty, add your own photo with Upload photo, then flip the toggle on. The green toggle is the publish switch — off means customers cannot see or book the item.
A clean launch checklist#
- Remove samples — nothing that says "(sample)" should survive to launch day.
- Activate only items you truly own, with real quantities — the toggle is also your availability promise.
- Open View storefront and look with customer eyes: no placeholders, no $0 prices, no stock-photo giveaways.
