Cancelling a booking — and what happens to your stock
Cancelling releases the reserved inventory immediately. Here is the full checklist so nothing is left dangling.
To cancel, open the booking from Bookings and press "Cancel" (on a confirmed or paid booking) or "Decline" (on a new request). The moment you do, any stock that was reserved for that date is released and can be booked by someone else.
What cancelling does — and does not — do#
- It frees the inventory instantly. The date reopens on your storefront.
- It keeps the booking in your history with a cancelled badge, so your records and Reports stay complete.
- It does not move any money. If the customer paid a deposit or a balance, that is still sitting in your ledger.
- It does not email the customer automatically. Tell them yourself — on Pro, open their record in Customers and use Send email so the message is logged.
Refunding what they paid#
Open the booking and scroll to the Payments ledger. Record a refund there for whatever you are returning — deposit, partial, or full — and pick the method (cash, card, check, other). If the payment came through Stripe, issue the actual refund in Stripe as well; the ledger entry in Rennt is your bookkeeping record. See the article "Refund a customer" for the full walkthrough.
Declining requests costs nothing#
A request never held stock in the first place, so declining one has no inventory effect at all. Decline anything you cannot serve rather than letting it sit — an unanswered request usually means the customer already booked elsewhere.
