Promo codes: give customers a discount at checkout
Create percent or dollar-off codes with spend minimums, limits and dates. Customers apply them on the review step.
Promo codes let your customers type a short word, like SPRING10, at checkout and get money off their booking. Use them for repeat customers, holiday sales, a flyer at a school fair, or a thank-you to a local partner.
Create a code#
- In your console, open Promo codes in the left menu. If you don't see it, switch the menu to Advanced, or turn it on under Settings, Features.
- In the New code box, type a name in Code. Keep it short and easy to say out loud. Letters, numbers, dashes and underscores work. Customers can type it in upper or lower case.
- Choose the Type: Percent off (%) or Dollars off ($).
- Enter the Amount, for example 10 for 10% off or 25 for $25 off.
- Optional limits:
- Minimum spend ($): the items subtotal must reach this amount before the code works.
- Max uses: how many bookings in total can use the code. Leave it blank for unlimited.
- Starts and Ends (last day): the code only works between these dates. The end date counts as a full day.
- Note (only you see this): a reminder of where you shared the code.
- Click Create code. It is live right away.
What your customer sees#
On the last step of checkout, under the price breakdown, your customer taps "Have a promo code?", types the code and taps Apply. The discount appears as its own line and the estimated total drops. If the code doesn't work they see a plain reason, such as "That code has expired" or "Spend $100 to use this code".
The discount comes off the items subtotal. It never takes the total below zero, and a dollar code can't be worth more than the items in the cart. Any security deposit is worked out from the discounted subtotal.
Rennt checks every code when the booking is sent#
A code is checked twice: once when the customer taps Apply, and again when the booking request is sent. So if a code expires, is paused, or runs out of uses while someone is still checking out, it will not be applied. Each successful booking adds one to the code's Uses count.
Manage your codes#
- The list shows each code's discount, minimum spend, uses (and the limit, if you set one), dates and status: Live, Scheduled, Paused, Expired or Used up.
- Flip the Active switch off to pause a code without deleting it. Flip it back on to restart it.
- Click Delete to remove a code for good. Bookings that already used it keep their discount.
- Each code name can only exist once in your account. To run the same promotion again, reactivate the old code or pick a new name.
Tips#
- Short, memorable codes get used. SUMMER15 beats SUMMERPROMO2026A.
- Set an end date for seasonal offers so you never have to remember to switch them off.
- Use Max uses for "first 20 customers" offers.
